Holly Gibney, detective at the Finders Keepers Agency, finds her world turned upside down in this thrilling novel. Her controversial mother has just died of COVID, forcing Holly to hold a service online, while her partner Pete is hospitalized with the virus. On top of that, Holly receives surprising news that her mother left her a huge inheritance, turning her into a millionaire. Amid all this chaos, Holly gets a desperate call from Penny Dahl, whose daughter has gone missing. Though initially reluctant to take another case, Holly is moved by Penny’s voice full of pain and agrees to help. What begins as a single disappearance soon uncovers a series of similar, inexplicable vanishings in the area, stretching back years. Holly’s investigation eventually leads her to octogenarian professors Rodney and Emily—respected, semi-retired academics with peculiar tastes and unusual beliefs about the importance of eating meat for health. The story unfolds with chilling, unimaginable murders, and Holly must face danger herself. This novel is exciting, twisted, and full of suspense. The combination of Holly’s personal struggles, the intricate mystery, and the darkly peculiar villains makes it a compelling read.
