We live in a culture that places the self above all else. Comparison replaces solidarity. Blame replaces responsibility. Fear replaces reflection.
 True strength doesn’t come from isolating ourselves, but from remembering we are social beings — we belong to each other.

The Culture of Selfishness
We live in an age where the “I” is placed at the center of everything.
From the moment we are born, the idea of “I am special, I am unique” is instilled in parents and children alike. Mistakes are forgiven and others are blamed for them, without teaching responsibility or consideration for others, who are also unique and wonderful in their own way, even if their “uniqueness” differs from ours.
Society teaches us to focus only on ourselves: on our comfort, on our image, on our success.
We forget that we are social beings, and that our survival, growth, and happiness have always depended on the group, on the community, since ancient times.
But today the message we constantly hear is:
“Think only of yourself. Compete. Win. No matter how. Get rid of whatever or whoever stands in your way. Take shortcuts, even if it means lying, hurting, or intimidating others. Protect only what’s yours, no matter the cost.”
Instead of solidarity, we are taught comparison and rivalry.
Instead of responsibility, we are offered blame: immigrants, minorities, “the other side.”
Instead of looking inward to improve, we are invited to look outward with fear, disdain, or resentment.
 The purpose behind this
It is not accidental. Dividing us, isolating us, and making us feel alone and powerless is the best way for the powerful to push forward their own agendas.
If we distrust one another, if we see each other as enemies, we will never unite to claim what is good for all.
An individualistic culture makes us easier to control:
We don’t speak with one voice.
We don’t see the common good.
We don’t stand up for one another.
We leave ourselves alone in a world with billions of people.

La Cultura del Egoísmo
Vivimos en una época en la que el “yo” se coloca en el centro de todo.
Desde que nacemos, la idea de “soy especial, soy único” se incrusta en los padres y en los hijos también. Se perdonan errores y se culpa a otros por ellos, sin enseñar a asumir responsabilidades ni a pensar en los demás, que también son únicos y maravillosos a su manera, aunque su “unicidad” sea distinta a la nuestra.
La sociedad nos enseña a enfocarnos solo en nosotros mismos: en nuestra comodidad, en nuestra imagen, en nuestro éxito.
Olvidamos que somos seres sociales, y que nuestra supervivencia, crecimiento y felicidad siempre han dependido del grupo, de la comunidad, desde los tiempos más antiguos.
Pero hoy el mensaje que escuchamos constantemente es:
“Piensa solo en ti. Compite. Gana. No importa cómo. Deshazte de lo que o de quien se interponga en tu camino. Toma atajos, aunque signifique mentir, herir o intimidar a otros. Protege solo lo tuyo, cueste lo que cueste.”
En lugar de solidaridad, se nos enseña comparación y rivalidad.
En lugar de responsabilidad, se nos ofrece culpar a otros: inmigrantes, minorías, “el otro lado”.
En lugar de mirar hacia adentro para mejorar, se nos invita a mirar hacia afuera con miedo, desprecio o resentimiento.
 El propósito detrás de esto
No es accidental. Dividirnos, aislarnos y hacernos sentir solos e impotentes es la mejor manera para que los poderosos avancen en sus propias agendas.
Si desconfiamos unos de otros, si nos vemos como enemigos, nunca nos uniremos para reclamar lo que es bueno para todos.
Una cultura individualista nos hace más fáciles de controlar:
No hablamos con una sola voz.
No vemos el bien común.
No nos defendemos entre nosotros.
Nos estamos dejando solos en un mundo con miles de millones de personas.
