Thinking Through My Fingers: Reflections on Writing
Isaac Asimov once said, “Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers.” As a writer, I feel that this quote perfectly captures the act of writing as a deep connection between the mind, the heart, and the hands. Writing is passing your thoughts and emotions to your fingers. It is moving them from the deepest part of your soul or mind and transporting them to their final destination: a piece of paper, where your thoughts become something more defined, your expression of your soul, your statements to the world: “I am here. I have a voice. I have a soul. Look at me.” Through writing, we declare our existence, our reflections, and our emotions. It is not just the act of putting words together—it is creating a bridge between our inner world and the world around us, allowing others to see, feel, and understand a part of us. Isaac Asimov (1920–1992) was a prolific American author and professor of biochemistry, best known for his works in science fiction and popular science. The interpretation and reflections shared in this post are entirely my own thoughts and ideas, inspired by his quote.
