Crime in the Choir by Catherine Molloney, is the first book of the series.
In this first book we follow a rising star detective, Markham and his second-in-command as they investigate a prestigious school with some macabre secrets. Twenty years ago, three children disappeared and were never found. Then, two skeletons were unearthed on an excavation site on the school grounds, and they were not ancient burials but recent ones. The police suspect foul play. Things get complicated when the detective's girlfriend starts working at the school, another murder occurs, and a child goes missing. Who is this macabre killer who blends in with the kids and preys on their innocence? It’s a really interesting plot. The only thing I found a bit tedious at times was the excessive detail given to artifacts and catacombs, which made it hard to follow
